What is Guest Posting (also known as Guest Blogging)? You may or may not have heard the term before; if you have, you have either taken full advantage of the opportunity or ignored it because the term alone without an explanation of the benefits it can provide to your business, didn’t catch your attention. If you haven’t heard the term before or have ignored it, please pay close attention because it is one of the greatest forms of free advertising for your small business web site or blog.

Guest Posting literally means writing an article (post) for another person’s web site or blog (when you write a guest post on a blog it is known as Guest Blogging). The site or blog owner then chooses to approve and publish your article on their site or they can reject it depending on their needs or the quality of your article.

Why should you write articles on other people’s blogs or web sites? The answer is simply because it increases the visibility of your web site. It does this by building quality backlinks, since you are including your site link in the article. Quality backlinks are a determinant of your site's rank in search engines, the higher you appear in search engines the more likely people are to click on your site link. You will see an increase in your site’s traffic not only through the search engines but also through the referring site (the place where you Guest Posted). By providing your customers with useful information through your articles you begin to build a trusting relationship and people will want to know more about you and your business. We all know trusting relationships are the basis of successful sales. Building relationships takes time as does creating articles to Guest Post, but if you want to have a successful business it begins with relationships. Remember that the effort and time you put into Guest Posting and building relationships will pay off in the end.

As with all methods, this method of advertising may or not be for you. Give it a try and see for yourself what it can do for you. Remember Guest Posting (Blogging) is not a onetime deal; you will get better results from Guest Posting on multiple blogs and web sites. You can begin with Guest Posting here on Gig Logo or you can perform a search in Google for other places to Guest Post. Good luck, I hope that you get a positive experience from Guest Posting and begin to see an increase in your businesses exposure over the internet due to using the method.

Thanks for the post. I recently was asked to write a guest post on someone's blog. Not having done one before, I didn't know how to react. But seeing the potential benefits here, it looks like I should take him up on the offer. - Adam
