How to Get CommentLuv on Blogger

1. Go to http://www.intensedebate.com and sign up now by filling in the required information
3. Once registered log in to Intense Debate
4. Under “sites” select “add blog/site”
5. Type in your blog’s URL (the one you want to add CommentLuv to)
6. After you enter the URL, you will be asked to select your platform so select “Blogger”.
7. After you select “Blogger”, you will be taken to the installation screen. The first thing you will have to do is choose how you want comments to display using Intense Debate. If you want to display old comments from your previous commenting system then you need to choose “All new posts”. If you want the CommentLuv commenting system to appear on all posts (which will hide your old commenting system and you will not see those comments) then you would choose “On all blog posts”.
8. Follow the link from the Intense Debate directions and go to your Blogger account. Select the blog to which you want to add CommentLuv, then click on “template” in the more options menu.
9. Click Backup/Restore on the top right corner.
10. After you click Backup/Restore you will be directed to the following page. Click “download full template” and save it to your computer.
11. Return to Intense Debate and upload the template file you dowloaded in the previous step to Intense Debate.
12. After you hit upload Intense Debate will create a custom code that you will need to copy and paste in your Blogger blog. Copy it.
13. Go to the more options menu and click on “template”, go to where it says “edit HTML.
14. Click “proceed”.
15. On the template edit HTML screen select all the text in the box and replace with the code you copied in step 12. Click “save”. You have just installed Intense Debate.
16. Go to Intense Debate and click on “sites” from the top menu. Select the site you have just registered for this tutorial. On the left menu select “Plugins” and activate the “CommentLuv” plugin. You are done : )

yah one of the best tutorial I have seen..
Was thrilled when this worked…but now I find some comments don’t get published – and have no idea how to troubleshoot them. I receive the notifications for comments but don’t see them on the site. No issues with moderation. I see the comments on the IntenseDebate account page though. Weird.

I think the debate has much more intense than Disqus. I reinstalled on my blog also CommentLuv which I consider very important. At the moment there are no comments on my blog, I just installed the new module, too bad you can not import the comments from Disqus.

One thing I would recommend is making the change for only new posts. Otherwise, you have your old comments buried. I believe there is an export options there for comments but it is a bit of a pain.
Oh well.. Fresh start. It’s a new blog anyway! ;o)
Great recommendation Yomar! When I incorporated CommentLuv on my Blogger blog (which I have been neglecting) it was fairly new with no comments so I am not sure about that export option, I will check on that : )
Errr.. There is *an* export option there, I meant to say. Sleep is good for you, kids. =oP
What’s nice about the installer for Intense Debate is that you can uninstall and reinstall rather easily. Plus, in the process, it encourages you to export your CSS template, which is something we sometimes take for granted with our blogs.
They offer lots of neat plugins beyond CommentLuv. The Facebook sharing options, for example, are quite useful. For those that worry about clutter, the drop-down sharing toolbars in AddThis and ShareThis are pretty darn nice.
As if that weren’t enough, you get all these cool widgets to use. The comment scoreboard seems to be a favorite since it adds some good ‘ol game mechanics to your blog. I like it.

thank you for such detailed tutorial. but it’s still not working. I just made a new post and the option to comment seems to be invisible. there’s nothing there, nothing about commentluv or the general comment link. might have happened because I have disabled comments on new new post, but isn’t that what the tutorial asked to do?
This happened to me as well. I wondered if it was because I was using the new Blogger interface. Frustrating!
I did write the tutorial using the old Blogger interface, are you able to use the old interface?

I see your site is on WordPress, did you mean a plug in for a WordPress site? If so than you can download the plug in right from the WP plugins from your WP admin, search for CommentLuv. If you meant to add it on a Blogger blog, as far as I know you can only get it through Intense Debate, if I hear otherwise I will be sure to share that info here : )

hi there! i’ve installed the widget and i did activate the commentluv and share plugins.however i didn’t see any share (facebook) button besides my post.how to make it successful?
If using the new Blogger interface click on layout, then edit on the blog post box. Check the box that says show share buttons and save.
i’ve done what u have suggested (about the share button) but it didn’t work…why?would u please try visit my page and see about what i’m talking about..thanks

Once I figured out that all you have to do is click on the “add widget to your site” link and it takes you to the old Blogger dashboard, it was easy.

Thank you for this tutorial. I’m using the new blogger and there is not an option in the Settings>Posts and comments menu for “Comments default for posts.” I’ve proceeded with installing though and published a few new test posts to see if CommentLuv is working, but it is not. I was sure to activate it on IntenseDebate too. Any additional tips?

Thanks for the tutorial! I followed the instructions and I’m not sure what happened. I don’t see Intense Debate/CommentLuv on my most recent post. I have 1 comment in the traditional blogger way and now I just received notification of 1 comment using Intense Debate/CommentLuv. Do you know why or how to fix it?

For those of you using the new Blogger format, I have tested in and when you add the widget your interface switches to the old format. You can then go to that comment settings and change it. I gave you full credit and a backlink on my blog, Karla.

they are still there but not shown in the page. I dont want to override it..can you help???

They are still there but hidden since you are using CommentLuv and the CommentLuv replaces the default Blogger commenting system. You won’t see the previous comments unless you disable the CommentLuv.

With the CommentLuv plug in you won’t be able to see the old comments. I believe they are still there if you go into the Blogger default commenting system (not sure) if you would want to re enter them manually, when I installed it on my Blogger blog I had no comments. Sorry : (
I installed this on my blog on blogger, but right in the middle of the comment box is has a link to home and older posts. I wonder if the widget isn’t compatible with my design on my blog or something. Know of anyway I can fix that?
